Walking tours
Experience the culture and history of Alabama this summer with June Walking Tours. Thirty-four towns across the state are offering free guided walking tours each Saturday morning in June.
Each tour begins at 10 a.m. and is approximately one hour long. Community leaders will escort you through the historic districts or courthouse square areas of their hometowns, sharing their personal remembrances and some tall tales from the old days.
Birmingham- Milestones walking tour start at Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. For details, call 328-9696
Homewood-Homewood Chamber of Commerce will lead a tour through downtown district and talk about the history of Homewood. Tour starts at Homewood City Hall. Call 871-5631 for more information.
Montevallo-Taste of Montevallo Tour starts at the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce. Walkers will stroll down Main Street and sample food from Montevallo restaurants. For details, call 665-1519

Camper's Supper
A FREE monthly Campers’ Supper is held the Thursday before Trade Days (March – November) rain or shine in McCalla at Tannehill State Park. Each month features a speaker and everyone is welcomed. No charge, no reservations needed, bring a “covered dish” to share. You do not have to be a registered camper or Trade Days vendor to attend. Farmer's Markets
Fresh produce from area farmers throughout the summer at the following locations:
East Lake Farmers Market - held in the parking lot of East Lake United Methodist Church and features recently harvested produce, including strawberries, peaches, squash and tomatoes, as well as home-baked cinnamon rolls, single-serve pies, cookies, cheese straws and yeast rolls. Gardendale -Good Shepherd Lutheran Church opened up Gardendale's first Farmers Market June 3 in the parking lot of the Big Kmart. It will be held every Thursday from 2-6pm this summer.
Helena Market Days -at the Helena amphitheater from 8am to noon June 5, 2010 to September 27, 2010 http://www.helenamarketdays.com/
Jones Valley Farm - a community-based, nonprofit organization that utilizes more than three acres of vacant downtown property, to grow organic produce and flowers, in addition to educating the community about healthy food. From May through October, the farm sells in-season, fresh-picked organic produce, herbs and flowers at the After Work Farm Stand. The farm also participates in the Pepper Place Saturday Market. www.jvuf.org

Ruffner Mountain Nature Center- A 1,011 acre natural oasis located on one of the last undeveloped stretches of the Red Mountain ridge known as Ruffner Mountain. Tannehill State Park - Tannehill Ironworks Historical State Park has more than 1,500 acres in three counties set aside for hiking, camping and outdoor recreation. A miniature railroad chugs through the pines. From spring through fall, the blacksmith, miller and craftsmen demonstrate their trades.
